Details
WOW - what a treasure. Antique double sided locket. Opens top down. All of the details are irreplaceable. XRF scans 52% gold - slightly above 12k and not quite 14k gold. The monogramed side appears to be MJO - but honestly who cares what the letters are - it is that cool!
Two file marks on one side, pictured. Large bail. Nice secure closure - bigger interior than a standard locket, could store tick-tacs or chiclets. Elk side features a blue enamel belt around an elk with garnet eye. Reading CERVUS ALCES B.P.O.E. which stands for Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, a fraternal organization founded in 1868 in New York City. The group is known for community service, charity, and social fellowship. Commonly known as the Elks Lodge or simply The Elks. The enamel on this piece is in very good condition.
Measures 1.5" long without bail x .82" wide. 17.5g
