Hi! My name is Jenny, I’m delighted you’re here! I have a huge love for jewelry of all kinds, specifically vintage, antique, estate and pre-owned. I like to say my love for jewelry started when I was a toddler and my mom would carry me around while wearing a 14k add-a-bead necklace. I would frequently take those little beads between my teeth and impress my baby teeth marks on it. She still has the necklace today and it’s so cute to see how it’s aged over time. Fast forward to my days living in NYC post college. It’s where I would save my teeny tiny pay checks and stroll the fabulous streets of New York looking for vintage jewelry treasures to fill my jewelry box with. I became completely obsessed, not knowing when my next phase of jewelry love would come until years later when I moved back to Minnesota, my home state and met my now husband, Craig. His family business is in precious metals refining. In lamens turns - MELTING gold. The business, W.E. Mowrey Company, started in 1899 in St. Paul, Minnesota - with a bread and butter of melting and refining gold to then make dental gold products. For over 100 years all of the gold that walked in its doors was melted. Until I showed up! I now have the great honor of cherry picking vintage, estate, preowned, gold, gold-filled and sterling silver jewelry that deserves a second life. And that’s how The Emerald Karat began. A place to share and showcase all of the many treasures I am saving from the melt pile and hope to get back into the hands of a new owner who will love and cherish them just like I have with my mom’s add-a-bead and the vintage pearls and cocktail rings I collected in NYC.
